6 Teacher MUSTS over the Summer:
1. Hit up garage and yard sales...you never know what good treasures you are going to find! These are great places to find book shelves, children chairs/tables (primary grades), work tables, books, and so much more! Check out your newspapers and especially look to see if your areas has a for sale pages on Facebook.
2. Pinterest, Pinterest, Pinterest! Get ideas, organize your boards, and share ideas! I always copy and paste the new ideas I definitely want to add to my room on a word document and print it off. I take that paper to school and cross them off as I complete them.
3. Teacher's Night Out!!! Call up some teachers from your school and get together for fun! Have a pool party, go to a winery, play laser tag, or anything else you can come up with. This will build a strong connection with your team and it is always a good idea to surround yourself around other people who understand what your passions are.
4. Spend one day doing NOTHING! I know teachers have to be constantly on the go and their brains never shut off, but this is something you need and deserve to do! Shut down your brain and do I dare say this to the most organized people out there...make no plans! Have a straight up do nothing day. Trust me, your body will thank you when the first week of school gets here.
5. Read. Just that simple, do what we tell our own students to do over the summer. Pick up a good book and read. Make sure it is nothing something you have to read, but something you would personally enjoy. This will add a spark to why you love to read and the kids will feel the difference when you talk to them about the importance of reading.
6. A daring adventure! Do something you have never done before and brings a rush of excitement. It can be traveling to a new place, sky diving, swimming with dolphins, going to watch a new sporting event, anything that is new and exciting to you. This will make you feel like you accomplished something personal over the summer and give you something to share with your students on those first few days.
